“It does not empathize,
it only surveils and counts.”

A brisk pace commands attention.— UPS Methods, pg. 29So does a grievance.

Why this exists

Do you ever find yourself extremely pissed off at UPS? Angry, but not really sure who to be mad at? Telling yourself, and everybody else, “Boy, I sure got F*CKED today.” You know what I mean. Too many stops. Too many miles. Too many packages.

You know it’s going to be a long, long day. If you manage to “run” a little, you might get some time with your family tonight. Then you come back the next day and get the same thing. Still tired. Still sore. Still hurt. As UPS drivers, we’ve all had those days. Sometimes a little too often.

“More money for us,” we tell ourselves. But that secret payback is a small consolation for the physical and emotional pain we constantly feel. It stays with us as hidden resentment toward a faceless corporation, and all the while our personal lives suffer for it.

Meanwhile the executives make the real money, with their bonuses and their stock buybacks. The money stays at the top of the pyramid. In the end it goes to Wall Street as dividends, free money for the real stockholders, the real owners of the company and of our days.

Enough of that. Bring that hidden resentment out into the open and start fighting back with 9.5 Dispatch, an app built by a driver just like you who decided to fight back.

What does 9.5 Dispatch do? It records your hours, clock-in to clock-out. It counts your days over 9.5 and tells you when a week qualifies. Then one tap fills in Local 760’s own grievance form with your excessive hours, near automatically. You hit submit. Nothing goes to the union until you do.

They count you. Now count back.

  1. File the 9.5 in one tap. The app counts your days over 9.5 from your own punches and tells you the moment a week qualifies. One tap opens Local 760's grievance form, already filled in. You read it, you submit it. Your phone number and address never touch our servers: they stay on your phone until you file.
  2. One scan, the whole crew's board. One driver photographs the dispatch screen. Everybody at the center gets the board in their pocket. Wrong number? Tap the row and fix it.
  3. Know your real day. Stops, packages, miles: what was on you at clock-in, what got added after, and what you actually ran. Counted by you.
  4. Breaks and lunch, on your terms. Alarms at the times you pick. Quiet, and on your phone only.
  5. The contract in plain words. Overtime, the 9.5, holidays, vacations, injuries. Short cards, with the exact contract language one tap away.
  6. Keep the receipts. Every entry, timestamped in a log, so the numbers can't quietly shift on you. Your averages, on Trends.
